"Jónsi Birgisson is the lead singer for an Icelandic band called Sigur Rós. Dean had done a documentary about the band and asked Jónsi to do the end credit song for the first movie, which was lovely. On this film, we brought him in for the Viking love ballad that Stoick and Valka sing to each other. He and John Powell collaborated on that song and the plan is for them to write more songs together."

"I worked on the music with Jónsi Birgisson from the Icelandic band Sigur Rós. Jónsi writes melodies without words; is was just sounds. We got the structure and the form, knew the melody and figured out what we wanted the song to be doing dramatically. Then we had to find the words. I had a conversation with Jónsi and Dean about songs we loved and strangely we all fell upon Shane MacGowan… We contacted Shane and he rewarded us with amazing lyrics."
